How TO Get Homework Done Faster
Students don’t have tons of time on their hands. You wake up, go to school, come home, do homework, go to bed, and then do it all again the next day.
In order to make time for things other than school, you have to be efficient in getting your schoolwork done so that you have free time.
Try these tips to help you get your homework done more efficiently.
1. Put Your Phone Away
To be totally transparent with you, I’m totally violating this rule right now, and I would’ve gotten this post done before the night before I wanted to publish it if I had followed this rule.
But I didn’t :(
Phones are such a big distraction. It’s so hard to do anything when you’re constantly getting notifications and your phone is making random sounds and you have a whole world of things you haven’t seen yet on the internet.
I know-- self control around phones is hard.
But you can do it.
I can do it (although I'm not being the best example of it right now).
The better you become at putting your phone away, the easier it’ll become.
2. Close other tabs.
When you’re working on a computer, other tabs being open is a constant distraction waiting to grab your attention. It makes it easy to switch tabs, only to find yourself going down a rabbit hole you didn’t even realize was there.
Stick to as few tabs as possible to avoid distracting yourself.
3. Turn off music (maybe)
I’m not saying that some people can’t work efficiently with music-- some definitely can. But if you’re like me and work 40% slower with music, it’s best to turn it off.
I like to think that I can work with music, and I can, but I end up going much slower than I could’ve gone.
Listening to music is fun, but if it’s wasting your time, turn it off.
4. Go somewhere with fewer distractions.
Go to the library, a coffee shop, your room, somewhere where your siblings aren’t trying to get your attention and your parents aren’t reminding you to take out the garbage and your friends aren’t just sitting there waiting to talk to you.
Find somewhere where you can be alone, or at least not around people you know. Work in an environment where you don’t have people vying for your attention, and where it’s relatively quiet so that you’re not distracted by what’s happening around you.
5. Get enough sleep.
I mention sleep in literally almost every post, but it’s because sleep is super important.
Get enough sleep. It will help with your focus, which in turn will help you to be more efficient.
Also, I’ve got a bonus one for you: exercise. It also will make you feel more focused and help you get things done more efficiently.
Just saying, it works ;)
7. Don't try to perfect it.
Homework is just like anything else that you do-- if you rush it, you could be sacrificing quality. But something that I’ve learned over the years is that you have to be willing to sacrifice a little bit of quality for some extra time, and that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.
Perfectionism causes you to take much longer to do things. It’s never going to be perfect, so sometimes you just have to let good enough be good enough.
Bottom Line: Don’t Let Yourself Get Distracted
There are constantly things vying for your attention, whether it’s your siblings, your phone, or your friends. However, by lining things up for yourself, you’ll be able to keep yourself from getting distracted by all of these things and get things done much more efficiently.
Getting yourself focused by giving yourself plenty of exercise and rest is also a great way to get homework done more efficiently.
As students, we have very limited free time, making time management and efficiency very important. Hopefully, these tips will help you to make more time in your life for things outside of school.
