Why I Wake Up at 5:30
Okay so the title of this post is slightly misleading because you’re probably picturing me as one of those people who wakes up at 5:30 every day regardless of when I went to bed, one of those people who rolls out of bed at 5:30 in the morning on New Year’s after three hours of sleep. No ma’am, I sleep in when I need it because I honestly think it’s more important for me to get plenty of sleep than to get exercise, so I sleep in when I need it.
That being said, one of my New Year’s resolutions was to have better morning and nighttime routines. So one day I decided that I should just get up at 5:30 on school days.
So, to answer the question of why I wake up at 5:30, it’s to get my morning routine in. But there’s more.
When I wake up at 5:30, sometimes I’m really tired. However, it motivates me to go to bed on time. I want to wake up feeling refreshed from a good night’s sleep, and I know that in order for that to happen, I need to be asleep before 10:00.
MY MORNING ROUTINE
I’ve always known that when I do my morning routine, I feel much better for the whole day. Especially if I didn’t sleep well, it helps me to feel more energetic.
So let me give you a little outline of what I do in the morning:
5:30 - Wake up, pray
5:40 - Read the Bible
6:00 - Get dressed, drink coffee
6:20 - Workout
6:45 - Shower
6:55 - Breakfast
7:20 - Leave for school
It’s simple, but it makes a huge difference. Exercising, showering, and (of course) coffee helps me feel more energetic for the rest of the day.
My Nighttime Routine
Since I’m talking about routines already, I might as well mention my nighttime routine. My nighttime routine doesn’t take as long, but it’s also really important so that I can go to bed feeling tired and ready to sleep.
Typically my nighttime routine is mainly composed of getting things all ready for the next day: getting my lunch made for school, getting my breakfast ready, picking my clothes out, and having my water ready to drink right away in the morning.
I also typically read before bed because it’s another one of my New Year’s Resolutions to read more.
Also, making a to-do list for the next day helps me to wake up in the morning knowing exactly what I need to get done that day.
By the time I get in bed, I feel prepared for the next day, and I’ve prepared everything so that when I get up in the morning I have less to do.
All this being said, I am for sure a morning person. I prefer to get up early and go to bed early (although sometimes life gets in the way of both of those things happening). However, it’s certainly how I prefer to structure my day, and I actually have a decent amount of energy in the morning.
I wake up early in the morning to make sure that I have plenty of time to do my morning routine before school. My morning routine helps me get mentally prepared for the day and gives me the energy and focus that I need for the rest of the day. It also motivates me to get to bed early because I want to get plenty of sleep before I wake up early in the morning.
